Spire Snapshots: Campus Happenings and Highlights

Welcome to Spire Snapshots, your peek into the exciting activities and events happening around The Spire School campus! From hands-on projects to festive celebrations, our students and staff continue to inspire us with their creativity, collaboration, and curiosity.

In the Classroom…

Art

In the art studio, students have been exploring the unique and imaginative style of Spanish artist Joan Miró.

Taking inspiration from his colorful and surreal works, they are creating their own vibrant paintings. We can’t wait to see these masterpieces brighten up the halls of Spire!

Science

Science class got a little bubbly (and messy!) with an exciting hands-on experiment. As part of their introduction to the five main reaction types, students focused on the decomposition of hydrogen peroxide. Using this reaction, they created the visually spectacular "elephant toothpaste," which produced a foamy explosion of oxygen and steam. What a fun and educational way to bring chemistry concepts to life!

Garden Project: Growing Something New

On a sunny Saturday in October, Ms. Dede LeComte and a group of dedicated parents rolled up their sleeves to break ground on Spire's very first garden! The day was filled with teamwork and progress:

  • The space was carefully measured, edged, and tilled.

  • Volunteers layered cardboard and brown paper bags, topped with fabric and a fresh layer of mulch to prepare the beds.

  • A sturdy fence was added to keep hungry critters at bay!

This is just the beginning, and we’re so excited to see how this project grows. Future plans include planting a variety of vegetables, herbs, and flowers, creating a space where students can learn, connect with nature, and enjoy the fruits (and veggies!) of their labor.

Spirit Week: Fun, Festivities, and School Spirit

From October 28th to November 1st, the Spire community came together to celebrate Spirit Week, and the energy was contagious! Both students and faculty showed off their creativity and school spirit with themed days throughout the week:

  • Monday: Pajama Day – Comfy and cozy vibes kicked off the week.

  • Tuesday: Decades Day – From groovy '70s to '90s throwbacks, we saw some amazing looks.

  • Wednesday: Crazy Hat/Hair Day – Wacky and wild hairdos stole the show!

  • Thursday: Halloween Costume Day – The campus turned spooky with incredible costumes, followed by a faculty-hosted Trunk-or-Treat event for our students. The creativity in those decorated trunks was spooktacular!

  • Friday: Jersey Day – Students and staff repped their favorite teams with pride to wrap up the week.

The participation and enthusiasm throughout Spirit Week made it a memorable experience for everyone.

Looking Ahead…

With so many exciting projects underway and plenty of creative energy on campus, we look forward to sharing more Spire highlights with you.

Thank you for being part of The Spire School community – where every day is an opportunity to grow, learn, and connect.
